Cabbage Salad

Show your German side at your next potluck or picnic with this yummy cabbage salad that boasts no leftovers.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 medium onion, sliced thin
  • 2 carrots, shredded
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced thin
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 3/4 cups white vinegar
  • 3/4 cups canola oil
  • 1/2 tsp celery seed

Method

Mix the first 5 ingredients in a large bowl. Set aside. In a medium saucepan blend next 5 ingredients for the sauce. Bring to a boil and simmer until sugar dissolves. Pour dressing over cabbage and toss. Chill 2 hours.

 

Notes: This salad lasts 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Basic sweet and sour flavor of German dishes. I have never had leftovers at any gathering!!
